This May marks Manufacturing Month Northern Ireland, a chance to recognise the people, skills and businesses behind Northern Ireland’s manufacturing sector. For us at Donite Plastics, it’s the ideal time to talk about the teams behind our work and the culture that has helped the business grow and adapt since 1981.
At Donite Plastics, people sit at the centre of how we work. Our factory floor is where thermoformed components are formed, trimmed, checked and finished, but it is the skill, care and communication behind each stage that makes the difference. In supplying customers across aerospace, transport, medical, construction and manufacturing, every job depends on practical experience, attention to detail and people who take pride in getting the work right.
This is apparent from the moment you walk through the doors at Donite Plastics. It’s a busy but positive atmosphere, where everyone stays focused on getting the job done properly. Even with the hustle and bustle of the factory floor, the team remains approachable and ready to support each other.
There is a strong sense of teamwork across departments, with NPI, engineering, quality and production working closely together. Like any manufacturing environment, there are days when plans change, problems arise or the pace quickens. When that happens, the team communicates clearly to resolve the issue, while keeping standards high.
What sets Donite Plastics apart is the mix of a close-knit team and the level of care needed for technical manufacturing work. We trust our team to take ownership, share ideas and solve problems together with a clear focus on quality and continuous improvement across the business.
Effort doesn’t go unrecognised. The factory floor is a fast-paced environment, so we make a point of periodically slowing down and acknowledging the work that goes into each project. That might be a team breakfast, or a lunch treat – simple things that boost morale and give people reassurance that everyone’s efforts are valued and rewarded.
A recent aerospace project summed this up well. We successfully completed a large, time-critical rapid response project for an aerospace customer, helping them close out urgent testing -a demanding job with a tight deadline which needed input from across the business.
From the first customer conversation through to final dispatch, our Business Development, NPI, support staff, engineers, quality and production teams collectively delivered on time by agreeing and implementing a clear plan, supported by quick decisions and careful checks, with each department taking ownership of its element of the job.
For us at Donite Plastics, that project showed our team performing at its best. Everyone understood what needed to be done, kept communication clear and stayed focused on the customer’s deadline, without compromising on quality, safety or care. The result was a positive outcome and a clear example of the team spirit that runs across the business.
That is what sits behind our factory floor: teams of experts that support each other and take pride in every component that leaves Donite Plastics.
As we continue to grow, we will build on the same people-first approach that has shaped our business for more than four decades. From the skills on the factory floor to the culture across the wider team, it is our people who keep Donite Plastics moving forward.
