Meet the Team: Corey Kempster

At Donite Plastics, we are committed to developing the next generation of engineers. Fresh ideas and new perspectives are what keep our work innovative, and we believe one of the best ways we invest in young talent is through apprenticeships.

This month we are introducing you to our engineering apprentice, Corey Kempster! Learn a bit more about Corey below.

Name: Corey Kempster

Apprenticeship: FdEng Mechatronic Engineering Higher Level Apprenticeship (UU Affiliated)

College: Southeastern Regional College in Bangor

What is your role within Donite Plastics? Engineering Apprentice/Trainee

How long have you been with the company? I joined Donite Plastics in August of this year.

What does a typical day look like for you? First thing I do every morning is scan over my to do list for the day. This allows me to prep for the day and allocate time to complete my tasks. If I ever get stuck or I’m unsure about anything I’m doing, I often go to my team lead so I can be allocated and helped with workloads.

What benefits are you getting from your training with Donite Plastics? A lot of my work is similar to my work in college; this has made it a lot easier for me when it comes to assignments or tests as I feel I have a bit of an advantage due to the practical knowledge I’ve gained.

What has been a highlight for you throughout your time at Donite Plastics? Everyone at Donite is very approachable and easy to talk too which makes learning a lot easier. If I’m stuck on something I don’t feel pressured or panicked into asking someone else.

How will your experience with Donite Plastics benefit you in your future career? It’s helped me build the confidence to work in any engineering setting, because the experience I’ve gained will be useful no matter where I go.

What are your career aspirations? Where do you see yourself in five years’ time? In 5 years’, time I hope to be completing my bachelor’s degree in Ulster University. It will be a 2 year top up degree after I finish this course which I hope to do this alongside working in Donite.

What advice would you give someone thinking about undertaking an apprenticeship with Donite?Find a healthy balance with work and studying as it can be intense. Once you stay on top of it, it becomes much more manageable.
